Any of the controllers that work with the game are fine, but if you plan on using a Pro Controller I'd prefer that you take the battery out of it before attending and using the charging cable to play with it on the day. Wiimotes are fine so long as you take your batteries out between sets. Try not to rely on the Gamepad, I can't guarantee every setup will have one.

As an aside to this, would Gold Coast people be willing to meet at the same venue as this on Tuesday evenings every week at 7pm for some friendlies and a round robin? I've spoken to the Melee people who already do the same thing there and they would be happy with us showing up. It'd be $5 to use the venue and we'd have it until 11pm. If you're interested let me know and we could meet up as early as this coming Tuesday.

Well I'm going tonight to play Melee. If anyone else wants to come and bring a Sm4sh setup I'll probably play it a bit but I'm mostly feeling Melee atm.

I can't make tonight unfortunately, I will be there next week however. Some others might be interested in tonight though; the Melee group should know that we might be making an appearance at some point.

Southport isn't the nicest beach, but you could catch a bus or something.

The Gold Coast Smash 4 monthly is making a return in the last weekend of July (the 30th), this time for a full day event with singles pools and bracket + a doubles bracket:
https://www.facebook.com/events/1086104718102178/
Also to tide you over, there will be a Melee tournament, Downsmash, at the same venue on the first Tuesday in July (the 5th) starting around 7pm:

First one was fun so I'm definitely down for a second. How those Tuesday friendlies looking though? I'm keen to go on a Tuesday evening if there's enough people. Smash 4 though Coz I'm trash at melee.

Tuesdays it's hard to gauge how many people are going to show up; Melee usually has the same problem as they sometimes have 20+ show up, yet last night they had 6. I'll try and be there next week with a setup hopefully.

Registration for this event is now live. Please remember that entry is limited to 50 people due to venue requirements, so it's recommended you preregister here: http://goo.gl/forms/6FgsBwDgTp5gI39F2 Here's where you can see who has signed up for the event so far: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wRPMXIkVtNZmGPFflm_7p3dshRuy_u64yRtnp889z3E/edit?usp=sharing
You'll find the preregistration form link in the event description if you haven't already registered. Remember that this event has an entry cap of 50 people, so preregistering is recommended.
Tomorrow night (Tuesday the 12th of July) I will be down at the usual venue again (Good Games GC) for some friendlies and practice starting around 7pm. There's a $5 venue fee to get in, and if we get enough people and setups I'll look at running a round robin/bracket for fun.

How many free in-house monitors are there on Tuesdays? I imagine some are used by FGC.

Hi everyone, just needed to make a few announcements and clear some stuff up for the event on Saturday:
Even if you haven't preregistered for the event you'll still be able to show up and register on the day, however I will be cutting off entry to doubles at 10:30am and entry to singles at 11:15am in order to finalise the brackets in time. If you think on the day that you are going to be late, I'll have a separate post on the Facebook event on the day that you can let me know on and I'll be able to put you in the bracket. Alternatively you can let me know on here if you'll be late. Bear in mind that registration is capped at 50 players, so I would recommend preregistering in order to avoid disappointment.
Please remember that if you plan on bringing a setup to claim the $5 discount, you'll need to have all the DLC fighters and Dreamland installed on your console in addition to having all the regular fighters and Smashville unlocked. There are 8 screens at the venue we can use, but if you are able to bring your own that would be good.
There was some confusion at the last event regarding the venue fee and bracket entry fee. Paying for your venue fee doesn't grant you access to any of the brackets, it will only get you in to the venue and allow you to play friendlies. In order to be entered into any of the brackets, you'll need to come and pay me the respective entry fees before the cutoff times mentioned above.
The Duck Hunt stage has been added to the stagelist as a counter-pick, bringing the stagelist to 5 starters and 2 counter-picks. As a result, I've decided to give the winner of the previous game from game 2 onwards in each set 2 stage bans instead of the usual 1 (e.g. Player 1 wins game 1 and elects to ban Final Destination and Dreamland for game 2. Player 2 may then pick a stage from the remaining 5). The ruleset has been changed to reflect this.
If you plan on driving to the venue it's important to know that parking is metered in Southport on a Saturday from 9am-5pm. There is a small amount of free parking in front of and behind the venue so I would recommend getting there early in order to avoid paying through the nose for parking. If you aren't able to get a park there, both the Mal Burke and Cloyne Road car parks are about a 2 minute walk from the venue, however they charge an hourly fee. For those of you coming down on the train from Brisbane, you'll want to get off at Helensvale Station and then catch the 704 Seaworld bus into Southport from there, and for those driving down it's exit 66 off the M1 (the one with the Seaworld sign).
Finally, if anyone is interested I'll be down at the venue again tomorrow night (July 26th) for some friendlies and practice before the tourney, and if we get enough people in I'll run a little round robin bracket. 7pm start time and only $5 entry.
If you have any other questions just let me know, otherwise I hope to see you all on Saturday!

Just putting it out there, trying my best to make it down there with a mate at 7pm for the friendlies tonight. It'd be real cool if we could grow these friendlies and get a good amount of people for round robins.

The Gold Coast Smash 4 monthly is back for its fifth installment on the 5th! It's a sign you should come along. See the post description above or the Facebook event for more details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1192859567453326/
Tuesday friendlies will be running this Tuesday coming (11th October), 7pm start and $5 venue fee and there will be a small bracket run as well.
Preregistration for this event is now live at the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/y4MII2Dm8ACarJdt1
In addition to the singles and doubles bracket I'll also be running crew battles (as voted by the people). Entry will be included with your fee for one of the other brackets, and sign-up will be on the day. There will be five people per crew, and I may have to limit the number of crews entering on the day. I'll put out more information on that closer to the date.
Starting from this event, I am introducing a new footwear policy: In order to gain entry to the event, you will need to be wearing footwear of some kind. Please make sure you adhere to this rule in order to avoid disappointment on the day.
