Probs mid tier.

tfw when statistically dead centre.
Except that would only be the case if an even spread of people played all characters in all tiers. Given that most people play characters with positive MUs versus a majority of the rest of the cast, statistically you're going to run into more people who are more likely to have good MUs versus your bad-decent characters, thus your actual viability is affected the further you move into bracket.
So maybe low mid *statistically*. But you almost think about the possibility of getting 1 or 2 bad characters vs someone good and it's more like playing vs Lucario where you're doing okay but 1 or 2 mistakes at a critical match point and it's all over red rover. Given that inconsistency can be crippling in a way the numbers themselves don't define, then it's probably worse for you. That's not to mention the added burden of trying to learn 55 characters inside-out to play them at their full potential.
Which is why random mains deserve all the credit in the world for doing as well as they do. You guys are pretty boss.

The Random MU is the hardest and easiest matchup in the game.

Playing against random messes with your mindset. You literally have no mental preparation for the matchup - at least against other players you have a minute or two during stage select. Even against easy/familiar MUs, it's easy to mess up against a random player.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I hereby call a motion that this thread should be owned by Fruit.

This also assumes that every character has an equal chance of spawning at the start of the match, which I believe isn't the caseā¦ Not sure of the exact mechanics of it but this was interesting https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/3deqi5/how_the_random_button_works/

Once Fruit starts shitposting I'll give it to him. Until then the most vocal random main will own the thread. I always wonder if other random mains learn semi in-depth stuff about each character or do they learn the basics and get by on fundamentals.

whenever i play random i rely mainly on the basics and fundamentals. theres always the few tricks you know just from watching other people play like with robs gyro or with diddy's nana

Fruit has put time and effort into knowledge and practicing for every single character in the game, including Miis which can't even be random'd.
