Custom moves in the competitive scene

  3. Custom moves in the competitive scene
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS allows players for the first time to customise the special moves of their characters. These custom moves can only be used online with friends.

Custom moves take a decent amount of time to unlock, however they also add a level of depth to Super Smash Bros. which has not been seen in the series before.

I'm quite surprised by Attila's statement that everyone in Melbourne wants custom moves banned after just a single tourney.

We had custom moves in the latest PLAY Warehouse and as far as I could tell they were fine. I had ten custom builds of Megaman and used them to counterpick my way to victory. From what I could tell, the only other people that used custom moves were Jaice (who put them to good use) Aero and Blade, so it would seem that they give you an advantage.

What do people here think about custom moves at tourneys? I think they're awesome for the time being.

I think that the scene will mainly be about who unlocks what moves first on what character to give you that advantage like you say, but once that is past, it will be the fact that everyone will have all moves and know them more in depth; taking away the advantage.

Banning something new like this will only limit our knowledge on the game, and thus limit our skill I feel especially after one tourney, I say after 3 or so tournaments judge what characters are dominating and if they are with custom moves via counter picking or not, then go ahead and make a decision on banning custom moves.

You have to also keep in mind that customs also make other characters more viable in competitive play, and banning moves is kinda like banning a character in a sense/ its potential.

I think it's too early to ban them. Things like these take time to figure out, both how to use them and how to deal with them as an opponent. (Also if you can use a custom move to deal with other custom moves... )

The only real issue with them so far, I think, is they are too time consuming to unlock. The thought of unlocking them all, then having something happen to your 3ds so you have to unlock them all again makes me shudder. Though I wonder if you can use a wii U version that's unlocked them to transfer the unlocks across...
