So the game has been out for less than a week in America and there's already talk of banning Diddy.

Also being discussed on some popular Twitch stream. Haven't even seen a good Diddy yet.

O.K, bumping this to try and give some advice against the Hoo Hah (Diddy's Dthrow>U-air combo for those who don't know what "Hoo Hah" is)
From what I can gather, when you get D-thrown by Diddy, you should DI in the direction you are thrown (IE past his back) at a 40 degree angle. On most of the cast, if you do this DI perfectly, and very early, the U-air doesn't seem to connect at mid/high percent (sometimes even lowish percents), but he can get a F-air off at low and probably mid percents if he's frame perfect.
The optimal thing (at 100+%) is DI at that 40 degree angle to avoid the U-air which will kill you, and then as he F-airs you, use survival DI (toward stage/up toward corner). Doing this, the F-air shouldn't get anywhere near killing you. To put the knockback of Diddy's F-air into perspective, it kills G&W at 144% from the middle of FD when he has max rage.
At high percent, you can most likely even avoid the F-air with perfect DI. The main key is just reacting to the grab very early and DI'ing very quickly.

Oh, the irony. My memory tells me he was talking about RosaLuma when he said that, but I guess I was wrong.

So that's why I couldn't land those hoo hahs on you Jezmo. It seemed like you were either too far away for an uair or too high up for a fair whenever I get the dthrow off of you.
Or maybe I'm just bad lol

Arby knows some pretty good jet pack tricks. He can recover the opposite side of fd with it by going under it fully charged which is hard to gimp and showed that at 0% upb then hold left/right combos into the explosion on the ground next to your opponent which is pretty cool.
03/03/2015 10:38:26
03/03/2015 10:38:26
Up B is pretty fun to mess around with. You can hit people below you if you explode on platforms above:
03/04/2015 02:32:22
03/04/2015 02:32:22
Wii U: Blatikin
Some more diddy kong tricks. Some even been mentioned like the opposite stage recovery, but we have an example now!
03/04/2015 14:48:21
03/04/2015 14:48:21
So apparently when you hit Diddy out of his Up B, you can control the jetpack's trajectory. TIL

http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/3991ff/ranai_is_a_madman/cs1ehaw So 1.0.8 pretty much gave Diddy the Greninja treatment. This character got nerfed so hard:
- Uair has increased ending lag, making it very hard to do rising uairs
- Uair hitbox also fixed; it's now a proper uair and not a upforwarddownbackair (hitbox area reduced)
- Uthrow damage reduced 8% > 5%
- Dthrow damage increased 6% > 7%, but knockback scaling is increased. Can't combo from it at ~30% onwards. RIP Hoo Hah 2014 - 2015
- Dtilt damage reduced 6% > 5%
I can't blame any Diddy player who decides to switch mains after this patch, since the nerfs outright put him in mid tier now. Tbh I'm now finding it hard to still enjoy playing as him.

I'd probably have him as like, 17'th now. It's a real pity. I just don't understand these nerfs, at all.
Sheik and Rosalina and a few other characters are so much stronger, and more polarizing. Anyway, I don't have much trouble with the new U-air, and I think he still combos fine. Feels kind of like a kick in the teeth, though.
Thanks for that info though, Jlo.

Nerfs are based on data collected from For Glory. Tactics that work on FG performed by bad players against bad players will usually result in a nerf if they're over used. Characters like sheik are difficult to use in any kind of lag and for that reason most people don't use her.
When sm4sh first came out, if people lost enough they would get salty and switch to little mac because his ground game is OP. They'd C-stick their way to victory, and then he got nerfed.
Diddy kong's up-air was so infamous that even people who didn't follow the competitive meta knew about how fantastic it was, so people on FG would use it and win.
The fact that the data is taken from FG means that nerfs will never really be quite what they're supposed to be.
<hr>
At least i think thats right

I've jumped ship...had pika as my secondary for a while and had been considering the switch for a bit. i kept playing diddy after last nerf cause i still enjoyed playing him anyway cause he did deserve the nerfs but now its just overboard. Any other diddy mains know he just doesn't feel right anymore and it's quite a shame...also gonna pickup lucas Also i believe diddy received another nerf due to the exhibition tournament that happened in Japan right after last patch and zero and m2k still tore everyone apart and sakurai was there to witness in person

I'll prolly keep playing Diddy and adjust to the patch, until maybe I come to the realisation that it's not as fun playing as him anymore. I have a few pocket characters I've been dabbling with, just need to decide which one to develop up to a tournament level.
I'm convinced that ZeRo's tournament results in the US played a role in the nerf, since post 1.0.6 the number of Diddy Kong players in the top 16 of Japan's tourneys dropped significantly. Rain, arguably Japan's most dominant Smash 4 player pre - 1.0.6 dropped him in favour of Sheik.
goddammit ZeRo stop winning every tournament you enter So ZeRo ended up using Diddy in FC Return and won in a convincing and dominating manner (including a double 3 stock on Wizzy, holy crap). There's hope yet for Diddy mains looking for a top player to emulate.
The main thing I've noticed with his gameplay that even though he is the undisputed Diddy in the world, he almost never uses bananas, instead opting to take advantage of the character's (still) great aerials. Other players such as MVD, Denti and Zinoto opt to have maximum presence of bananas, as nanners endow a major advantage in the ground neutral game. ZeRo however, just facerolls everyone without them.
To that end, I decided to play Diddy without bananas for the past couple of days, to understand how ZeRo actually does it. It also serves to remedy my general gameplay, as I've been too reliant on nanners in the neutral and often get destroyed when I don't have one out. It exposed glaring flaws in my gameplay. Relying on bananas for most of my damage set-ups meant that without it, I needed to have immaculate spacing and great reads in order to deal damage. I kept getting destroyed by players who actually learned how to play the game properly and not reliant on gimmicks. I now have a much bigger appreciation of how much ZeRo is above the rest of the competition, as it takes really deep Smash knowledge in order to pull off the things that he does. I'll still continue playing without nanners for a few more days, and see how it goes.
Also, I'd like to claim ownership of this thread, got some plans for it.

kudos to you for sticking with him
tbh i jumped ship early and didnt really give new nerf diddy a chance. Played with him yesterday and it isnt as bad as i thought, now i don't know who to main but will still probably rotate between pika/diddy/wario
also i have noticed zero is using a lot more shiek now...yes at Fc he did take it down with diddy but he dont think he felt threatened by anyone there if you look at CEO top 8 i'm pretty sure he went all sheik against biggest threats like nairo etc.

ZeRo's Diddy has very crisp movement options, utilising several momentum cancelling ATs:
[gfycat]SolidBarrenArgali[/gfycat]
One of them, dubbed "dat movement" by the commentators of the match above, is Momentum Reverse B-Reverse Banana Pluck (name pending). It is seen at the beginning of the match where Diddy does a B-reversed banana pluck while shifting his aerial momentum. It functions similar to the Momentum Reverse Popgun Cancel, except you get waaaaaay more backwards slide with the banana pluck. It also looks pretty damn sexy.
Along with Popgun Cancel, this technique allows Diddy to mix up his aerial movement whether he's landing down the stage or towards the ledge. It's usually done out of a smashed Side B to get maximum aerial speed .
I've done this a few times in a match, but I decided to spend some time in Training Mode tonight to figure out how to do this tech consistently. After more than an hour in the lab, I've finally discovered the trick to doing this technique consistently (and fortunately for everyone, I'm not saving this for EVO ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ). To anyone who wants to learn how to do this swag technique, here's how it goes.
- The best way to do the pluck is out of a smashed Side B in mid-air. So first, double jump to get yourself high enough in the air and smash Side B to the right
- Wait until the Monkey Flip kick animation window is finished before executing the pluck. If you do it too early, a kick will come out instead. A good indicator whether the animation has finished is while Diddy is flashing during the flip, you can press B to output a kick. Wait around 10 frames after the flash has finished before inputting the pluck
- The b reversed pluck is the hardest part of this move, the majority of the time in Training Mode in which I spent trying to consistently land. If done incorrectly, you'll either get a non-reversed pluck, a reversed pluck bot no momentum reverse, or even no pluck. The trick to getting it right was actually pretty simple once I found it out.
- So now you're travelling fast to the right in midair due to the smashed Side B. To execute the Momentum Reverse B-Reversed Banana Pluck, you first move the control stick between the 4 and 5 o'clock position and then slide it to around the 7 or 8 o'clock position, and then press B. If done correctly, Diddy will move diagonally down-left while plucking a banana behind him.
If you're moving to the left, it's just a matter of mirroring the sequence above. You can use this in conjunction with the Popgun Cancel to make your movement extra tricky and pull off some Battlefield shenanigans.
P.S. If anyone here wants a video tutorial, it'd be great if you can direct me to someone with a capture card so I can send you replays which I can use for footage.

Instant Popgun Tech, a recently discovered tech for Diddy Kong. It's very similar to Sheik's Instant Needle Cancel, except the input window is more lenient.
Basically it allows you to perform any grounded A move (jab, tilts and smashes) and grab out of a popgun cancel. One great application for this is you can perform a popgun out of a dash, and then cancel that for a popgun cancel (so you can perform something like a running dtilt).
Some Diddy combos here if you're interested in learning how to play as him:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn4VvZE_JJu28dAuncjd_P35uM4anztPV
JC banana toss upwards before a hoo hah at high % can kill sometimes, since the banana hits the opponent and provides enough hitstun to true combo into an uair.
Really good video on various Diddy Kong techs.
As for Diddy's place in the tier list, I'd say he's outside the top 10. Top tiers can do much better at everything he can do.
Ryu and Fox beats him in shield pressure
ZSS at MK beats him in punish game
Cloud beats him in kill power
Rosaluma beats him in zoning
Villager beats him in projectile play
Sheik beats him in... everything
Around 12-15 in an ordered list.
