How the hell do you deal with cloud

  3. How the hell do you deal with cloud
Im scratching my head on how to deal with him, everything about him is so strong. That frame 1 jab is so brutal, hes fast and that sword stops most of my attacks. I have no idea how to approach him apart from hoping cloud makes a mistake, but even when he does he recovers so fast.
Any tips apart from gimping him? For those who are unaware i main yoshi and palutina. So any match up knowledge or who would be the best to fight him out of the two would be appreciated

I switched because of how you reacted about Cloud. Some people just leave if you use Cloud too much so I tend to balance my games between character.

Cloud counters Yoshi pretty hard. Palutena is 100% the better choice, but the matchup is awkward for Pale Tuna even though it's better because you have to abuse your bair/DA guard attacks

Yeah I don't play cloud as often because people start sd ing sometimes. I can't give u much info on cloud but I will say this... All cloud mains are evil and should be avoided at all costs.

Do people really SD because of Cloud? I mean I hate Cloud as much as the next guy (especially since I'm Villager), but come on, at least you get more MU experience.
When I play against Cloud, I try zoning him out with projectiles. Try to keep him away from you as best as possible. Also, he's recovery sucks and he can be gimped. It's worked for me. Punishing will be difficult because a lot of his moves are safe on shield. Just play defensive and don't let him back on the ledge once he's offstage.

Use Palutena, Yoshi gets countered so hard by Cloud.

I try to hit him up, but he's usually already in a friendlies so i just try to find someone free XD
Anyways i should apologise though for just SD'ing like that, It's poor sportsmanship regardless if i wanted time to gather my thoughts, it's hard to communicate online and i'm still getting used to communication on there XD I had a feeling that you would leave when i did that. It was some really good games, even though i didn't perform as well as i would have liked ><; but its k i get better one day and maybe give you good matches and a bit of a challange XD

I actually don't remember who it was, but it was after my loss against dooty someone had told me it, i was a little skeptical but it did feel like it came out really fast. I havn't actually researched Clouds frames myself because he wasn't seen too much at GUF. Or i never fought him in the brackets, probably shouldn't have taken that guys word for it and looked up his data myself

Yea don't have the tags in my Wii U x.x;; I don't normally jump on FG due to my net not being the greatest XD Although i was surprised that their wasn't too much lag, just had to play a fair bit to get used to it all~
Just took a look at Clouds frames, i'm surprised that they are pretty normal in comparison. Guess i just suck XD....

I find King Dedede deals with Cloud really well! Big D beat M2K at G3 with Dedede. Sometimes character CP are good options. I had to pick up M2 to deal with Yoshi and Rosa.

Not sure what clouds you're dealing with, but DDD should not be having a good time against cloud at all. Also cloud had only been out for a month at G3.
Personally I recommend not trying to counter pick to often. Try and learn match ups, the game is pretty balanced. Unless it's ness vs rosalina or villager the matchup shouldn't get you changing characters. However if you're very comfortable with your secondary and your secondary does do much better than your main I guess there's no point working harder to win. It's just that in early game switching characters can often split how well you start learning the game and get better.

Well our jab is actually faster than his, and as with all swordies our standard aerial approach game is pretty bad. You can get a lot of mileage out of shield against Cloud because his follow ups to grab are pretty awful and our double jump will get out of a lot of traps. That said.... Being in the air above cloud is the worst :( It will vary between players but I think resetting to neutral against Cloud is an art form in and of itself. Against a good Cloud you're going to need to get creative - consider taking the ledge against impatient players; you'll be able to DJ back on stage and they might miss a good opportunity to get free limit charge.

I don't know much about specific interactions as far as frame data/punishes go. While you should trust your intuition (Yoshi has a great punish game but I'm sure you know this), err on the side of caution because Cloud is one of the few characters that we can't create advantaged states against by attempting to trade hits (I mean, he has a sword so I guess that's obvious, but he also has limit so you'll get fucked up pretty hard).

Also, Cloud players feed off the toxicity of others whinging about their clearly buh-roken character. If you pretend to be happy you'll confuse the Cloud player whose only goal is to make you miserable.
I would also recommend trying to play some Cloud. Some of his actions are really really punishable, whereas some spell certain death should you attempt to punish. (i.e. the fine line between dair with/without landing lag)

This is very important.

Also on a side note Arby said Cloud doesn't get much off of grabs, which is true. However try to still be cautious because clouds can thrive off throwing you off stage, charging limit and then ledge or edge guarding you.

Yeah, I find that when noticing a particular match-up is annoying me, have a play-around on your own as that character, get a feel for what you do and don't appreciate (note that in this instance, Cloud is super easy to pick up), and read up the corresponding MU advice on smashboards - I haven't looked at the Yoshi pages, but I'm assuming they have something there?

Find a move that sweeps low. Cloud is like a MUCH better version of Little Mac. But if you throw him off stage and utilise a move that sweeps low to knock him away from the ledge, you will have a better time against Cloud.

Maybe the Yoshi's should start utilising down smash or dtilt a bit more or even just keep going for those fairs.

Yeah if they are shit at using their up b they gon' get dunked. Dtilt is equally effective at murder, safer, you maintain stage control, but not as stylish. But fair is love (fair is life).

The MU is actually considered to be one of our better mu.

I believe character CP in this game helps. There are MU'S I personally just can't mentally (Lucario vs yoshi) deal with and I've tried for months. I think Jaice is a good example that multiple characters don't slow you down and me personally, I had better results when I played dedede and m2.

This is so true for me. The character counterpick is basically completely mental for me, even if a matchup is worse for a certain character I may just have the right mindset for that particular matchup
