This may be a long shot but do you think it would be possible to implement a "Follow this Thread" or something similar as to remove the need to have it open in a seperate tab and constantly refresh it to get updates from the thread and have it chained to a notification icon next to the PM icon saying something like "Someone has commented on a thread you are following" or "(IGN here:) has commented on (Thread name)"
Like I said, long shot :/

'Follow thread' functionality is not out of the question.
Just checking that you're aware the 'latest threads' sidebar on the forum and in the online page auto refreshes yeah? I've put a lot of effort into the Online page in order to alleviate the need to constantly refresh for updates. I hate having to constantly refresh pages myself, so it's been baked into the design from the start of the Online page.

I can't be bothered reading all the comments to see if this has already suggested:
Today was the first time I realised that the titles in the top banner are actually drop down menus. I was trying to find the Elo rankings, but there wasn't a link to them on the main page. Assumed they might be on the "Competitive" page.
Anyways, what I'm saying is, I think they should drop down when you hover over them, not when you click them. I'd hovered over them numerous times before and just kind of ignored them because I assumed they were links to 3 different pages which I hadn't seen/don't care about.

Well, in most cases they should have arrows pointing down to signify drop down menu's.

Any plans for allowing tags for teams matches?

Nav menus that only activate on click are to my understanding terrible for usability and weren't originally implemented because they just don't work on tablets like the iPad.
http://uxmovement.com/navigation/why-hover-menus-do-users-more-harm-than-good/
I do agree that it seems unclear, so I added a caret icon to indicate that those menus are drop down menus.
Tagging teams matches has a few points to it:
> mainly that if this is implemented, it makes tagging data take so much longer
> do I just allow teams, or do I make it so that you can tag 3 and 4 player teams also?
> there's a bit of an issue with how to allocate characters in teams
> generally I find I can't get team data anyway unless the match is recorded
I do however see the value in tagging this data somehow because it'd be nice to see on your profile all the team results you've earned. Because of how I'm implementing things like ELO rankings and other stats, the way teams is tagged will have to be a different process in order to prevent it leaking into these stats and other places.
I think long term yes, I'd like to have team data taggable, but I don't feel like I've got enough resources in the form of admin who tag tourney data yet to justify it. I'd like to think that once every competitive state in Australia has a dedicated tourney admin we should be in a position to start working on this. Mainly because once we implement it, there becomes a massive task of backtagging all previous teams results and that's going to need a lot of people on it.

Maybe time to get an automated tagging system in place ;)

It's getting closer to the top of my list of lists of things to do lol but I'm prioritising adding the ability to like shoutouts first because that benefit is felt by everyone.

If you're talking about Smash 4... that ain't Falco
Also this thread should stay on topic so it's probably best not to post this kind of stuff here!

A different 'like' icon?
Perhaps Master Hand, Captain Falcon salute, R.O.B Uptilt, Kirby 'Hi' taunt, Yoshi eggs or something smash related or something...

Thats hard cos it needs to be instantly recognizable at 16px square and it also needs to be implemented as a vector so that the colour can change dynamically in shoutouts now. Theres other icons I want tho so I might check this out but am just wary of costs.

Id say a more urgent item is to prevent emery from posting in the music thread.
Also name changes should no w be enabled but they take the site down for about ten minutes so they gotta be scheduled in at times when the site isnt active.

Two things:
This is a bit tricky on what I should be doing here, mainly because a PM exists between two people and not just a single person.
What are the expectations here if:
> User A hides their message (I assume User B can still see it)
> What happens then if you hide a message and then User B sends you a reply to this message - wouldn't this make the message become unhidden again?
> Would there then be a requirement to see all hidden messages?
They just can't be deleted easily unless both users want it gone. I might have a look around and see how other forums handle this.
I've had this on my mind for a while and I'm actually really interested to see if other people are keen on this. I find Anther's Ladder a great concept and would like to implement something like that here, but a ladder can do damage to a site if not properly managed.
I remember there was an online ladder for Smash on MMGN and that just caused drama cos it wasn't moderated and not really well integrated. As long as the current moderators would be happy to help manage that, I think it could be a really good idea and could even be implemented rather quickly if I utilise the ELO rating data I recently added.
Do people want an online ladder / ranking system?

Ive got a suggestion...how about having an icon like a green circle or something next to our names showing that we're online (as in on the website right now). Just an example scenario, if you wanted to pm or talk to someone here you could message them while their online and (possibly) get an instant reply instead of waiting or not knowing when their online or not. This could make communication between users alot easier.
Also an online ladder/ranking would be a pretty cool.

A second 'ELO' system/ranking but solely from online tournaments?

This is what the online ladder would be emily. Remember MMGN?
Disrepek do you mean if the person is simply on the website, or when they've set their online status to available that it would show that green dot? Cos the first can be done relatively easily but the second one is a bit trickier.
