It's unfortunate the way Syke is handling other games besides Melee since he is the Smash organiser for this event, but splitting the smash community in QLD even further is an awful idea. There's already so much disconnect between the Melee and Smash 4 players that doing that would just make it even worse. The best thing the QLD Smash 4 players could do for themselves would be to attend this event.

As for the ruleset it's just going to be the Apex/Melbourne ruleset because that's what the majority of players are using. It's kind of strange to me that the QLD scene seems even disconnected from Smash 4 states in Australia; I haven't paid much attention to smash 4 much though so I could be wrong.

Registration now closes on the 15th of February, I'm not sure if they are going to extend the deadline further but it's best not to rely on that and just register ASAP.

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me because I don't check this site too often. The only way the ruleset will be changing as well is if Melbourne changes their ruleset from the Apex one.

I know the price is quite high but I hope everyone that can come does because this event can be great!

For people who haven't seen Facebook / Smashboards / wherever else this is, I can confirm that I have stepped down from the TO position for ButtonSmash and wont be attending.

This was due to:

*a major communication breakdown between myself and the other tournament organisers.
*V being unable to attend this event, so I'm having trouble promoting this as a major
*first place in SM4SH won't even be guaranteed to win back their entry fee at the current rate of entrants
*for the price im not interested in running a two stock event with no guarantee I can run pools to add player value

I would like to make a special mention of Russell who has been completely supportive through this whole process.

I'm handing back the SM4SH TO duties back to Syke who will still be responsible for also Melee and PM. I encourage people who were planning to attend this event for those game to definitely still go, but as of now I cannot speak on behalf of ButtonSmash regarding anything about SM4SH there.

I would like to wish Syke and the rest of the TO team the best of luck with this event!

Pools is guaranteed to happen for every game, and since entry fee for singles is $10, Smash 4 had 35 entrants as of the last update so 1st place would be getting around $200 at minimum at this point. First place will also be getting a trophy if that matters to anyone lmao

BAM is in Melbourne on the 22nd to 24th weekend. Its gonna be one of the biggest ones of the year.

Monthly is not cancelled. UQ Smash is a monthly event and we have the next 3 event dates booked and are on the homepage of QLD Smash if you didnt know about them

I Just have to wait until the Exam timetables are booked before I can book ahead any futher.

For peoples Reference UQ Smash V is 21st Feb, UQ Smash VI is the 15th March and UQ Smash VII is the 19th of April.

Ugh, PW can't compete with UQ at this rate tbh.

I know it may not necessarily BE a competition, but the PW venue is pretty awful in comparison.

I hope there is still a decent tournout to Buttonsmash. People seem to forget that these 'majors' aren't just about prize pools and rules sets, it's also where you get to hang out with talented friends and fresh faces alike all day playing smash(!!!), go eat, drink and laugh the whole night, sleep for probably 4 hours and do it all again! It's where we have a chance to congregate as a widespread player base.

Or maybe this isn't something the smash community enjoys? I've travelled to multiple Magic Grand Prix, one in possibly the dirtiest format of the last 5 years, and I still found a way to make it memorable. (And guess what, I paid over $65 in event registration)
