For a start, you pick stage first. You could beat my Jigglypuff and ban BF/SV (or whatever is good for puff, because lol@Puff), then I can CP Halberd and switch to DK.

Now you have to ban Halberd every set in case someone has a pocket DK. Not to mention, if you have DL, Delfino and Halberd legal, DK is getting a really good stage no matter what you do.

Primarily though, you shouldn't need to ban Halberd just because someone might have a ZSS/DK/W/e. If we need to do that, the stage clearly shouldn't be being used.

Or, because there are so many viable CP characters, we could just choose characters before stages?

It's fine in melee and I respect that it's an old and traditional rule in Smash but in PM recently we switched to a characters before stages policy and it's been very successful. In a game with a lot of viable characters, I feel characters should be chosen before stages.

I understand that, by what is the actual reason for wanting stages that are polarizing/promote jank? Is it just a case of "Well, the more the merrier, I guess!"?

If no-one is going to let a DK/someone with good vertical KO power take them to Halberd, what's the point? And if we ban stages first to allow people the opportunity to take them there, then we're giving a massive CP advantage. I really fail to see what we get out of it, tbh.

You either have it as an obsolete stage that gets banned every game, or you give a huge boost to certain characters (who are already very strong).

I know I used to pick the stage as Pac Man just so I could kill earlier (Pac Man's kill moves are weak). It wasn't overly polarising for me to pick this stage against most characters as Pac Man being able to kill 10-15% earlier or whatever it is with apple is hardly gamebreaking. You wouldn't necessarily strike this stage against Pac because he's very functional on T&C and FD. Removing the stage kinda limits his CPing options, especially in certain matchups where he finds it difficult to kill.

but if you choose characters first then there's no need to ban it every time. You could say the same of smashville if "everyone has a pocket sheik" then that stage becomes obsolete because of just how good she is there.

IDK if I'm articulating my point well enough but yeah

I really don't feel like you can compare Sheik on SV to ZSS/DK or several others characters on Halberd.

My best guess is that the stage will stay legal, but the cons outweigh the pros considerably in my view, although you do raise some fair points.

Frankly though, looking over the cast, it doesn't appear that Pacman would get much of an advantage against most of the cast, so I'm curious who you'd CP it against. Surely Mario, Luigi, Diddy, Peach, Bowser, Zelda, ZSS, Samus, Sheik, Sonic, Robin, Palutena, Rosalina, Ryu and Greninja all get more from this stage than Pacman? Not trying to say you're wrong here, just curious.

These characters become very capable of killing you at absurdly low percents, and in a 2-stock meta, I'm pretty heavily against the idea of adding more jank into a game that already has rage.

I'd probably pick it against Villager, Ness, Mega Man and Pit at the very least. I wouldn't mind taking Samus, Sonic, Diddy, Sheik, Robin, Greninja, Bowser or Link there. Some characters like Bowser and Link just live way too long other stages. Some characters, like Sheik, may have down throw to up air but I get a z droppable vertical killer that on some stages against some characters, just isn't a viable kill option because it doesn't scale with rage and as such will not be killing characters like bowser until the 160s maybe even higher. Pac's biggest weakness in my opinion is his inability to consistently seal stocks. Halberd mitigates this to a degree and stops characters from living to frankly ridiculous percents.

This is just me though, idk how other Pac players feel but I know that a low ceiling is a very attractive proposition as it helps some of his kill moves become less weak. It helps other characters sure but they're gonna be killing at reasonable percents almost anywhere. Pac won't.

I mean I'm on the fence for halberd being legal, my point was more towards the fact that in a game with so many viable characters, a character before stages selection is much more fair and weakens the power of CPs to a much fairer level. It lowers the polarising nature of some stages as you can't just go "lol you didn't ban halberd, eat my pocket ZSS/DK" and increases the importance of being comfortable and good with your main on most if not all stages.

But yes I see where you're coming from with this.

In case anyone was unaware, it's worth pointing out that people over in the states are switching away from the janky CPs to a more reserved list.

https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/3theo0/genesis_3_official_announcement_smash_4_wii_u/

Both Xanadu and G3 won't be running Halberd/Delfino/Castle Seige

My main problem with these stages is that 9/10 times people are just gonna ban Delfino and Halberd if they're legal because they don't wanna deal with the jank, which kind of removes the whole point of stage striking.

That is not necessarily true, rarely do I see consistently people banning delfino/halberd every single match because people are not that scared to take some characters there. The thing that Jezmo said where say you play jigglypuff and the switch to DK so you can pick Halberd would be a great strategy if you didnt have to lose a game for it to happen and then putting yourself in a bad position for game 3 counterpick. People complain way too much about counterpicks, you should be taken to a stage that you dont want to play otherwise whats the point of the counterpick?

Looking real forward to this! Not sure about the full NSW crew but there'll be at least some.

Would like to clarify if Mii Fighter Builds refer to move combinations only, or if all weight/height combos are allowed? Small Mii Brawler is a bit ridic.

It's looking like SmashBox V is becoming a major with all of these interstaters.

Also Im not 100% sure for SmashBox but for the weekly GUF tournaments only Default/guest sized miis are allowed so I'm assuming it's the same.

Shitashi please organize a QLD Major.

Either way I want to keep the Geelong dream of drowning in pools at every event a reality.

Looking into two things for this hopefully today:

* bigger venue i feel we may now need
* if two days is possible

Not even sure if two days is an option but if it is ill have to consider people who already booked tickets. Cant screw early birds over. Possibly wait a day or two to book flights maybe.

We need to see your Brawler again M so i think we need to ensure the stream setup has all the sexy Mii outfits and dlc now. All mii builds are totally legal.

"All Mii builds" still means default size using guest miis right?

And the DLC costumes are just fluff. The Kount is accessible on every Wii U by default. :3

I don't have a problem with taking time to make a specific size Mii. This venue is great we can go late as we want so i can't see the point in being anal with stuff like that and wireless controllers.

I've decided that because we can get this venue as late as we want, even if it can't be a two day event we can still do crew battles at the end. I feel like everyone would have stayed back for crews at SXC but we had to leave the venue, so I'd be keen to settle that in QLD.

Also because I really need to now start getting smart about attendance to this, can anybody who's thinking of going please register on the page with the knowledge that you can simply unregister at any point on the same page if you can't make it. http://qldsmash.com/Smashbox

After meeting all the guys from other states, I'm crazy hyped for this! Everyone in the Smash scene in Aus is actually incredibly likable.

I suppose I'll have to keep up my practice and try to win on home turf. I'm keen to try and get more friendlies with OOS's next time, and I want everyone to teach me everything they know about their character, so I can expand my repertoire.

How exciting.
