This week, the senate has voted to change our ruling on Omega stages and Miiverse. These stages are now considered banned.
Since this was considered a minor issue (in contrast to, for example, the legality of Duck Hunt), a ruling was achieved by a simple majority vote. For larger changes, we will require a more thorough verdict with agreement from each state.
The reasoning behind this change is twofold:
1. It simplifies the ruleset. Having one ruling on these stages for game 1, and a separate ruling on these stages for later games is not necessary; we can simply globally enforce the FD/BF standard without really changing very much.
2. Certain omega stages do in fact have different properties to FD, and standardising these is helpful. The most notable property is ledge shape, but this is not the only one. For example, some stages have visibility issues with certain moves such as Greninja's Shadow Sneak or Villager's Timber (seedling). Also, the stages which compress the 3D collision detection of the game into the 2D plane retain this property in their omega form, which is problematic. Banning specific omega stages was something we wanted to avoid as it would add additional complexity to the ruleset (see point 1).
If you prefer to play on an omega stage, you are more than welcome to ask your opponent to do so. Some players have an aversion to Final Destination as they find the background distracting at times, so please be respectful of this and try to compromise with your opponent. However, if your opponent wishes to enforce the ruleset as written, you may not take them to an omega stage.
The senate may reconsider this ruling after the end of the trial period. A quick update - the trial period is currently due to run until the end of January, to allow all regions ample time to run this ruleset at a number of events. This also gives players who do not attend every event a chance to experience it. We look forward to hearing your feedback at the end of the trial period!

^ in that case, you should have a standardized omega take the place of FD, like how Sydney used to have Palutena's temple omega instead of FD, because FD itself has jank background bullshit and seizure lights, so pick an omega and make that the set stage.

This discussion already happened after the stagelist for the trial was decided, just before the trial began. The NSW senators faithfully represented their region in advocating for Omega Palutena's Temple, but majority voice was in favour of Final Destination being the default, rather than an Omega stage.

The trial ruleset period is drawing to a close, and we are now gathering feedback on what aspects players did and did not like. Please fill out the feedback survey, it should take about 5-10 minutes.

Well no. There are plenty of people who feel duck hunt belongs. It really isn't that jank.

Interesting you have platform length as a question about Dreamland but not platform height, which I feel is the biggest difference between it and Battlefield?

platform could stretcher people off the top but if anyone thinks thats an issue then we might as well ban Town and city alongside it
not sure what else is in the stage though

Does it actually take people all the way off the top (Kalos Pokémon League style) or does it drop them off before it kills (Prism Tower (3DS) style)?

I think it pulls people all the way up, but I agree with laggy this stage looks legal from what I can see, maybe.
