I forgot to ask, Luke, about how he gets the ECU rooms. At any rate, I wrote a formal e-mail to Curtin's submission section, and I wrote about who we are, and what we want to do. I wrote about what we would require in the rooms ect; this was all done in a polite, and mature manor so as to make me seem smartererer, but also to increase our chances of getting the room. I just got this response from them, "Hi Callum, Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate your request." That's it, that's all they said. They didn't give me a list of room prices like I requested, they didn't say ANYTHING in regards to a reason for why I was rejected. I'm offering to pay them money to hold a video game tournament in one of their visitor rooms, all of which were advertised for anyone from the public to use if they wanted to. I'm a loss for words at their disgusting lack of common decency.

Its probably because we're gamers and we're considered bad people for some reason. You know, because we're worse than the young adults who go clubbing and doing illegal drugs all night. Dat logic haha.
But yeah, for some reason we get cast into a negative light :/

Nah, that's right. People have expressed the difficulty of getting to ECU in the past. I tried Curtin as just another realm of possibility apart from ECU ~ I spent some time looking at other venues in Perth, but the only things that come up are like massive places for weddings ect.

Any ways, I messaged Luke (the guy from the causal day at ECU) on face book. As his name shows up in the event page so I just clicked it and decided to hit him a msg. Here is what he had to say:

"Heey man, our ECU bookings are kind of special. I have a contact in the ECU CASSA group which is pretty much their computer science group
They're booking our rooms under their name and we're essentially representing them every week
this way, they look much more active because they run weekly events
it's an old arrangement that somebody else organised an I essentially took over so I don't full know how we scored it in the first place but we're kind of in this mutually beneficial situation at the moment
I don't think you'll have much luck with universities unless you have somebody who attends said uni and is willing to register as a club in some cases
The ECU room on Sundays is open for any game really. Nobody has brought Smash 4 yet but I have no intention of stopping people
We run PM tournaments because it was the most popular when we started and also myself and another organiser both play
IF you guys want to run a Smash 4 tournament in the room then let me know. You'll have to work around everybody else unfortunately though but if you think you can do it then the offer is there.
When I say that I pretty much mean it's a first come first serve sort of deal on the day. There's tables and such available, if you set up there, I'm not going to ask you to move for anyone else's sake, you were there first.
This wont be the case on actual tournament days where I need to show preference (not that it's ever come up) but casual days are pretty free"

A couple of us tried to make a smash club for Curtin but it's gonna take a lot of committed people to get it off the ground. We need 10 board members and 4 of them have to be pretty active. Due to the nature of my degree and the fact I have to work means I could be a committee member but not much more.
I think we had a few responses but on the whole, I don't think many Curtin Smashers cared too much or they would have replied to the posts made on the FB group.

@DemonicCake - Everyone seems to be aware of this situation. Cafe Myriade is just some random Cafe in the city that is hosting these tournaments out of their own will. The money seems to go towards their two or three workers on the day, a bit towards the venue of theirs, a bit to the owners, etc. The price could probably be a lot cheaper, I remember they changed the smash bros tournies to like $5entry with $2 going towards prize. (for like less than a week, maybe only one event but it seems they suddenly changed it back to a higher price. They made quite official as well).
Other than that, simply put, no one is hosting tournaments like the rest of the Australia and other places in the world.
We all just put up with what we have to meet up with eachother and have some fun.

hahaha RED... that sign gag made me laugh. Pretty much everything that Elton said. I'm actively looking for other venue's but so far no good. What's WOSLAN? Also; something you guys might want to consider going to to is RFLAN in April. It's expensive, 50 dollars a ticket ~ But you can bring your PC, and sign up for other tournies as well, and it lasts from Saturday to Sunday. Smash Bros. Wii U will definitely be there, and seeming how anyone that buys the ticket can sign up for any tourney AND the amount of people attending this time around will be 720... It's safe to assume that it is the biggest Perth Smash tourney we've got. Tickets are capped out at 720 though, and they usually sell out very fast.
